How to market yourself by telling your story and build a profitable business?

I consider myself to be a jack of all trades and a master of some.

One of my explored pastimes was gardening.

While in Thailand, I thought that it would be a great idea to capitalize on the tropical weather and consistent supply of rain.

So, decided to dabble with the idea of how I could create a self-sustainable life without needing to go out to the markets and buy my fruits and vegetables.

Hydroponics was just starting to get popular at that time and so I set up my own rig in addition to the traditional plant, seed and soil as a plan B in case my rig failed.

Then, I bought the family favourites - seeds for potatoes, carrots, long beans, okra and tomatoes.

I knew I was playing the infinite game and decided it would be best to plant as many seeds as possible.

Like all experienced farmers, I didn’t know what would happen to my seeds and newly planted crop.

Like in life, unexpected things came to pop up at any time, so increasing your odds of success is key.

I did this by nursing as many seedlings as possible.

Some sprouted, some never grew, while others died very quickly despite all of my hard efforts.

However, there were the few that bore an abundance of delicious food.

With enough care, the ones that made it kept renewing themselves, grew strong and fed my family for months.

So, what does planting seeds have to do with marketing yourself with your stories?

By constantly sharing your stories, you are planting seeds.

Each seed is a chance for you to grow a relationship.

You can do this on any platform - Blogs, Youtube, Instagram, LinkedIn, just to name a few.

Through posts, you’ll be able to provoke curiosity and inspire others to take action and explore new things along with you.

Remember, people will pay for services or products they like, know and trust.

Ultimately, what clients want to know is ‘Can this person, product or service help me get the result I want?’

So show them the results you’ve to create for yourself and instil confidence that you can do the same for them.

By sharing your stories and planting seeds, you’ll build all of these factors over time.

Don’t think that one post will lead to one client - that’s like planting a single seed and hoping it will bear fruit right away.

Once you realize that you’re playing an infinite game where the players, rules and conditions are continually changing - the strategies and actions you take will be very different.

You’re playing a long game that requires you to observe, adjust, adapt, and act quickly.

You might think to yourself, who would want to listen to my story?

How is what I’m doing relevant to my clients?

Or maybe, you’re thinking I don’t have anything interesting to share.

In times of doubt like these, I urge to think about what Marriam Williamson wrote in her poem “Our Greatest Fear”.

It goes like this…

Now, I’m curious to know.

What’s a story that you can share with the world where you feel inspired to write and believe that it will inspire others to take action?
