Create your luck this Chinese New Year

Luck isn't something that just happens to us coincidently. It's something we prepare ourselves for and can give to others.

You may have stumbled across the arithmetics of luck, where;

Opportunity + Preparedness = Luck

It's up to us to keep ourselves open to the possibilities and prepare ourselves for anything so that we can capitalize on the luck that comes our way.

As we venture into the unknown called the future, seeing things from an optimistic lens can help us uncover opportunities that we would otherwise miss.

Chinese New Year is a great time to boost optimism.

It's known for its festive colors, red pockets filled with money, and edible blessings of luck!

In case you were wondering, this is the year of the Tiger - I'm one myself!

Want to see what the Chinese new year looks like in our house?

Did you know that each dish served during the festivities has a meaning?

Here are my top 5 lucky foods and their meanings:

1. Long-Life Noodles- Wish yourself and everyone a long life by eating a bowl without cutting the noodles! Yes, slurping is allowed!

2. Spring Rolls- represent bards of gold. Take a bite and revel at how many ‘karats’ you will find! A well-made spring roll will have at least 10-14 ‘karats’.

3. Dumplings- nobody ever needs an excuse to eat those bite-sized blessings in the shape of ingots - a former currency used in China made up of silver and gold.

4. Festive Fruits- The true symbols of wealth! The word and Orange (Cheng) in Chinese sounds similar to the word for success - so make sure you enjoy the sweet taste of some liquid assets!

5. Year Cake- also known as ‘Nian Gao’. The hidden meaning behind these delicacies - which sounds similar to the Chinese words for ‘tall year’ - is to wish those that eat it the best of luck on reaching new heights, or maybe a big promotion this coming year!

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!

Much Love,

Alex
